On Saturday, 13 September 2025, the Malkerns Town Council proudly hosted the annual Mayor’s Cup Tournament at Pholile Sports Ground. This year’s event carried the powerful theme: “Take the Challenge, End AIDS.” The day was filled with excitement, unity, and community spirit as local teams competed for the coveted Mayor’s Cup title. After a series of thrilling matches, the RFG Social Team emerged victorious, claiming the championship trophy and etching their name into the tournament’s history. Beyond football, the Mayor’s Cup was a platform to promote health and wellness. The Council, in partnership with various health service providers, offered free health screenings and sensitization on critical issues including HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis (TB), blood pressure, diabetes, cervical and breast cancer, and prostate cancer. A special emphasis was placed on men’s health, encouraging men to take charge of their wellbeing through early testing and regular check-ups. Many community members, both young and old, took time to visit the health stands, making the day not just about sports but also about building a healthier Malkerns. The Council extends heartfelt appreciation to all the participating teams, partners, health professionals, and community members who contributed to making the day a success. The Mayor’s Cup 2025 was a true celebration of sports, health, and unity – proving once again that together, we can win both on the field and in the fight against AIDS.
